Where Is the Skylab Space Station Now Four percent less drag than NASA's team had worked out was enough, in July 1979, to push the end of Skylab's trail of debris hundreds of kilometres east, past an empty ocean and over Western Australia. This film follows America's first space station from the launch that nearly wrecked it and the spacewalk that saved it, past the two spiders aboard, to the night it fell and the places where its pieces, and one of those spiders, are kept today. Five illustrations were made with AI where no free photo exists: three of the cutter and rope at the wing (around seven minutes in), a faceless stand-in for flight controller Charles Harlan (eleven minutes in) and light trails over Esperance (thirteen minutes in). So is the thumbnail. All other photographs and film are real; a few are stand-ins, like a garden spider and a radio studio, and some places appear at another date.
