UNDP Supports Domestic Tourism Activities Across Lebanon برنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي يدعم الأنشطة السياحية المحلية في لبنان . With the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and funds from the German Government through KfW Development Bank, together with AFDC and municipalities, local committees across Lebanon, established with the support of UNDP, are on a mission to revitalize their communities through a se- ries of tourism related initiatives that showcase the natural beauty, stunning land- scapes, cultural heritage, and economic treasures unique to each community. This initiative seeks to interconnect local attractions, economic resources, and stakeholders in targeted villages, building upon prior domestic tourism initiatives spearheaded by the local committees. The ultimate aim is to stimulate local economies by benefiting from the vast potential of the tourism sector, empower- ing local stakeholders and fostering a celebration of Lebanon's communities’ her- itage and resources through the lens of domestic tourism. . بدعم من برنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي، وبتمويل من الحكومة الالمانية عبر البنك الألماني للتنمية، وبالشراكة مع جمعية الثروة الحرجية والتنمية والبلديات المعنية، انطلقت اللجان المحلية، التي تشكلت بدعم من برنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي في كافة المناطق اللبنانية، بمهمة لإنعاش مجتمعاتها وإحيائها من خلال سلسلة مبادرات سياحية من شأنها تسليط الضوء على الجمال الطبيعي والمناظر الخلابة والإرث الثقافي والثروات الاقتصادية الفريدة من نوعها لكل مجتمع. تهدف هذه المبادرة إلى الربط في ما بين المعالم السياحية المحلية والموارد الاقتصادية والجهات المعنية الفاعلة في القرى والبلدات المستهدفة، وذلك بناء على مبادرات سياحية محلية سابقة أطلقتها اللجان المحلية. يكمن الهدف الأساسي في تحفيز الاقتصاد المحلي عبر الإستفادة من الفرص السياحية الهائلة ودعم الجهات المحلية الفاعلة وتعزيز الإرث الثقافي والموارد الفريدة التي تتميز بها المجتمعات اللبنانية وذلك من خلال قطاع السياحة المحلية. . South Lebanon has a population of 590,000 inhabitants and an area of 929.6 km2. The capital is Sidon. The lowest elevation is sea level; the highest is 1,000 meters. The local population is religiously diverse and includes Shia and Sunni Muslims, Druze, Eastern Orthodox, Maronite, Protestant, and Greek Catholic Christians. Temperatures can drop to 4 °C during winter with much rain and snow on the higher ground. In the humid summer, temperatures can rise to 30 °C in the coastal areas. The governorate has several rivers: the Litani, Deir El Zahrani, Naqoura, Awali, Qasmiye, and Hasbani. The area is famous for its citrus and banana farms.
