040126 SH 99 TRIPLE FATAL CRASH

A little after 9 pm Wednesday night, a 44-year-old male was traveling southbound on SH99 between FM 1960 and US 90 near Dayton in Liberty County. In that area, SH 99 is only two lanes. For unknown reasons, the male driving a Ford F-150 pickup crossed the center line and sideswiped a northbound F-250 pickup truck. That driver saw the vehicle cross the line and swerved, suffering minor damage and a flat tire. A Lincoln SUV is also traveling northbound. It is believed did not have time to react and was hit almost headon by the F-150. In the Lincoln was a 17-year old male driver from Cleveland and a female passenger. Both were pronounced deceased. The driver of the F-150 was also deceased. Liberty County and Dayton firefighters worked just over an hour freeing the victims from the vehicles. DPS investigated the crash with the help on Liberty County Sheriff's Office. Wrecker drivers from First Choice and Mainframe Wreckers removed the vehicles from the scene. The vehicle that was sideswiped was occupied by a 33-year-old Baytown man and his 16, 16, 8, and 7-year-old children was able to drive away after a Trooper helped the driver change the tire.SH 99 reopened close to 1:30am.
