I'd assume most people know for me from 15 step considering that's how my channel blew up in the first place, and when I published that I had the extremely ambitious idea of building to the entire album...
I'm putting what I made out of this song out there as a mark of the end of this project. After 15 step I realised it would take a lot more effort than I thought in order to build to each song to the standard I'd accept from myself, and I'm kinda surprised it didn't occur to me earlier.
I had a lot more planned for this level particularly, and it was also an impulsive decision to publish the level in this state. I started building this a few months after I uploaded 15 step, and the level has been sitting looking exactly like this since some time last year. The reason that I didn't upload this earlier is because I didn't like most of what I made here, particularly the last minute or so. The quality just started really dropping off and that just threw me off badly in my eyes at least since if it was any level, I'd want it to be this level to be absolutely perfect; but no I am not compliment baiting, my standards are just way off the chart with this song. Usually I would just keep building until I finish the level and then go back and redo things I made, but in hindsight it was probably better for myself that I didn't ruin the rest of the song for myself since typically after building to a song, I can't find myself listening to it because I just have an image of the gameplay burnt into my memory. Plus in the bigger picture of the album project, I'm not willing to half-ass a bunch of levels to amazing songs, let alone this song which you can probably tell is one of my favourites ever.
Don't take this as discouragement in any type of way please, I don't know if someone has fully completed a full album project but I'm sure it'll happen one day. The editor is an insane tool, and gameplay is a fun niche hobby that anybody can have impact on with a bit of ambition. 15 step was a massive success for me and something I genuinely didn't expect, so thanks to everybody for sticking around for my little ambition and believing in me, but I'm truly sorry that I've ended it short, I'd much rather preserve the state that the project is in now rather than take years trying to find the time I would need to build what I envision and also have to think about the fact that there were people anticipating the levels I was gonna make.
Anyway abt the level if u care, I rebuilt the first few seconds like a bajillion times because it insanely difficult for me to get it to feel right for some reason and in the end I just decided I wouldn't even put any gameplay and just copy paste structures from my other radiohead levels. It's probably worthy to note that I had four main ideas for this song, which was 1: the tp looping ships which just float around in sync to the backing vocals, 2: a convincing aspect ratio change from being closed in, and then dramatically expanding into the full screen, 3. have an animation or small video in the level, and 4. introducing colour at around 3 minutes into the song where it begins to sound really beautiful. That's why this whole video has a grayscale shader, because I didn't make it to that point. But I even think the whole song suits grayscale, take a look at the official video. So I was able to get those first three ideas out, with execution I was pretty glad about, but making that animation was such a pain. It's usually the ideas that I have planned for later in a level that motivate me to build until the end. I think I made it so far because I was so excited to bring in colours into this level. Actually there is a fifth idea i forgot to mention and that's the fact that half of the level as it is is vertical lol, I don't think I've really seen anyone utilise something like that in a level except for like sky tower by rafer and that was 2.1 too, but there's definitely someone who's done it before me the same way I did or at least thought of it anyway. I'm proud of the 11 minutes I made out of the album (or 12 minutes if you're counting the kevin macleod feature (i literally used this level for the thumbnail)), and I'm happy it's reached the people that it has. I've got a couple similar ideas for similar projects which is more realistically achievable, but unfortunately you probably won't be receiving a lot of uploads from me in the next few months. Everyone please be ambitious
