Singapore Airlines B747 Commemoration Flight SQ747 - 6 Apr 2012 - Take-off from SIN

At 0847hrs, B747-412 9V-SPQ entered Changi Airport's runway 02C and immediately began its take-off run. There was a palpable sense of expectation and when the nose of the Jumbo lifted, a round of applause rang out. This would be the final take-off by a passenger-carrying B747 in SIA service - and as the airport's terminals slid beneath the wings, the upturned wingtips seemed to be waving its own farewell to the airport it called home. The flight to Hong Kong was smooth, thanks to the great weather enroute and thanks also to the four Captains onboard - Capt Gerard EE, Capt Eric OON, Capt Roger LOH and Capt FH YEAP. The track too us toward the Philippines to a point just north of the island of Palawan and almost abeam of Manila before making a left turn on a track that had the aircraft's nose pointed directly at Hong Kong.
