Why Don't Crocodiles Attack Hippos?

Why don't crocodiles attack hippos? Nile crocodiles are among Africa's deadliest predators, capable of dragging large animals underwater with their powerful jaws. Yet when a massive hippopotamus enters their territory, even these dangerous reptiles often back away. Why are crocodiles so cautious around an animal that eats mostly grass? The answer lies in hippo aggression, powerful tusks, thick skin, and a fascinating survival strategy known as optimal foraging theory. In this wildlife documentary, we explore: Why Nile crocodiles avoid attacking adult hippopotamuses Crocodile vs hippo: bite force, strength, size, and natural defenses How hippos defend themselves against dangerous predators Why crocodiles attack hippo calves and scavenge dead hippos How crocodiles and hippos coexist in African rivers The evolutionary science behind predator-prey relationships and risk avoidance Discover why one of Africa's most feared predators often chooses retreat over confrontation, and what this reveals about survival in the wild.
