CRYPT - In my Skin

Edward Derby has a problem. His wife is beautiful. His marriage is complicated. His memory keeps disappearing. And somebody else appears to be taking his body out for the evening. “In My Skin” is CRYPT’s dark, seductive and morbid interpretation of H. P. Lovecraft’s “The Thing on the Doorstep” — a tale of possession, body swapping, forbidden occult knowledge and the uncomfortable realization that the person staring back from the mirror may no longer be you. Asenath Waite has always been... unusual. Beautiful. Intelligent. Dangerous. Unfortunately, there is something else behind those eyes. Something older. Something that has already cheated death once. Musically, “In My Skin” deliberately steps away from CRYPT’s usual occult hard-rock sound. This song is also our small and deliberate tribute to Peter Steele, the unforgettable frontman of Type O Negative, who died far too young in 2010. His combination of monumental heaviness, gothic melancholy, deep vocals, self-deprecating humor and the ability to make something simultaneously beautiful, depressing, sinister and strangely funny left a unique mark on dark music. “In My Skin” is not intended as an imitation or recreation of any specific Type O Negative song. It is a homage to that atmosphere and spirit — filtered through CRYPT, Lovecraft and one spectacularly unhealthy Arkham marriage. So this time the green is greener. The bass is lower. The humor is blacker. And death is apparently still not enough to get you out of a bad relationship. 💚 SHE LOOKS BETTER IN MY SKIN. 💚 Because sometimes the monster isn’t under your bed. Sometimes it’s your wife. Sometimes it’s your wife’s father. Generative AI is used as part of our music production process, helping transform our own lyrics, concepts and musical direction into the sounds you hear. The words are ours. The ideas are ours. The machines help give them a voice. Whose voice is currently using the machine remains unclear.
