Folk Aid was organized in response to the Lockerbie Air Disaster of December 1988, when Pan Am Flight 103 was destroyed by a terrorist bomb over Lockerbie, Scotland, causing widespread grief and loss. The idea was first proposed by Phyllis Martin to the Dumfries Folksong Club, who then coordinated with St. Joseph’s College to host the event, receiving enthusiastic support from the headmaster and staff. Dougie McLean, Danny Kyle, the McAlmans, Archie and Ray Fisher, Kathryn Tickell, Lowland Folk, Isaac Guillery, Coelbeg, Sileas.
