Inspired by This is Dan Bell, Sal, and Retail Archeology, I decided to make a video about Glenbrook Square. I went online to do some research on older mall stores. I would have edited the video, but my computer is so slow, it literally took me over 24 hours to save the video. Thankfully, it didn't take as long to upload. So, what are the stores I remember? In the video taken in the JCPenney wing, on the left hand side was a kitchen store called Lechter's. Also, we had Suncoast Motion Pictures where Francesca's is now. Tilly's used to be a luggage store, the name of which I can't remember. On the right hand side was a hallway that leads down to mall management and some restrooms, and a long time ago, there was an arcade. I don't remember if it was called Tilt, but it moved by the ice rink, then it disappeared. Another arcade, with a mini golf course, opened up after Marshall Field's closed, but before Carson's came in, and closed in the fall of 2018. Sears, of course, closed a couple months later. We had a Lerner's (Learner's) in the JCP wing, maybe where New York and Company was. Or maybe that's where The Limited was. Musicland was on the right hand side, in that same wing, then it was a Sam Goody's. Boston Shirt Yard was also in the wing, sort of on the corner where that one children's clothing store was. Turning right, heading down towards the ice rink, on the left hand side, there used to be a good jewelry store, the name of which I can't remember. It's where the custom shirt shop is now. Between the shirt shop and the jewelry store, we had Havaiana's? I think that was the name of it. Didn't last long. I think J. Riggings was where Maurices is now. I want to say Chess King was where Bath and Body Works is, and Merry Go Round was somewhere nearby. Down towards Carson's (which isn't there anymore) on the left side of the aisle is Market in the Mall, which is made up of several local vendors. The smallest booth size costs $150 a month. Prior to that, there was a store called Glitter, which sold dirt-cheap accessories and jewelry, shoes and handbags. They moved completely out of the mall, or else they closed down. I didn't remember seeing them anywhere else in the mall. I forgot to mention that prior to Carson's, we had Marshall Field's. Where GNC used to be, or maybe The Art of Massage, Wicks and Sticks had a store. Down the aisle toward Sears, The Wild Pair was on the left hand side, maybe where Torrid is right now. Looking out from the front of Sears, looking toward center court, that wing had MCL Cafeteria, then Rave, which sold cheap junior's/misses stuff, andSpencer Gifts on the left, and Stuart's on the right. Past center court heading down towards Macy's on the right was Hit or Miss and Casual Corner. If I can remember any more stores, I'll add them. An old phone book from the 1980s would help as well. I hope you enjoy the video. My computer is ancient, and I apologize for the wind noise at the front of the video. I might make more mall videos once I can get a faster computer.
