For a long time I have wanted to visit Vietnam, not sure if this is because I remember the war being on the news when I was young or because I enjoyed the TV program MASH. Having never been to Asia before I finally got round to booking a trip to Vietnam. Fast approaching my 70th (next year) I realised I needed to do this sooner rather than later. I used ChatGPT to come up with an itinerary for roughly a month long visit. My solo trip commenced in February 2026 flying in to Ho Chi Minh and then via Tay Ninh, Da Lat, Nha Trang, Da Nang, Hoi An, Hue, Phong Nha, Sapa ended in Hanoi from where I flew back to the UK in mid May. These videos cover what I got up to at each location together with an idea of prices. I also make a quick summary at the end of each video detailing my thoughts on the location. In the main language was not a barrier, smiling, pointing and guessing seemed to work although I did have to use Google translate on a few occasions but less than once a day. Other useful apps - Grab (for taxis) was excellent as was 12GO for long distance buses/minibus and trains.I used Expedia/Booking.com for hotels and Skyscanner for flights. I really enjoyed the whole trip, it was the dry season, very hot and humid in the south but a little cooler and fresher as I worked my way north. Travelling alone wasn't an issue and I felt safe wherever I went (taking usual sensible precautions). Food was great but drinks ie smoothies/iced coffee and Teas were even better. Prices are very inexpensive and once in Vietnam you can holiday and travel for very little money. Traffic is a nightmare with seemingly few rules when it comes to crossing the road - bikes come at you from all directions and the paths also need attention, it is not unusual for bikes to use the paths. Also bikes park on the paths so often you are forced on to the road, however you adapt and it becomes the norm. Enjoy the videos
