(23 Feb 1995) T/I: 10:42:29 Striking French seamen forced a Stena Sealink Channel ferry carrying 380 passengers from Dover to Calais to change course for the Belgian port of Zeebrugge on Thursday (23/2) at the start of a 48-hour national stoppage. All British ferries sailing from Dover to France -- those of market-leader P&O European Ferries as well as Stena -- were being diverted to Zeebrugge to avoid trouble with the strikers. Earlier, about 500 strikers clashed with riot police in Boulogne. The police fired tear gas to disperse the seamen.
