🇱🇧 TRIPOLI, LEBANON: LEGENDARY STREET FOOD, OLD SOUKS & CHILDHOOD MEMORIES
Welcome to Tripoli, North Lebanon! Today, I’m exploring one of Lebanon’s most fascinating historical cities with my friend Khaled, a proud Tripolitan returning to the streets where he grew up after more than 20 years abroad.
This isn’t just another Lebanese street food tour. It’s an emotional journey through childhood memories, traditional markets, legendary family businesses, authentic Lebanese breakfast, and the extraordinary people who make Tripoli so special.
🥯 DISCOVERING THE REAL TRIPOLI
Our adventure begins with freshly baked kaak and coffee at Sah Sah before heading into the heart of Tripoli to discover traditional bakeries, family businesses, and hidden culinary treasures.
We meet a traditional kaak maker in Harat El Barraniyeh, preparing thin, crispy sesame bread flavored with mahlab. Simple, authentic, and absolutely delicious!
Next, we visit Abu Hassan, a legendary street vendor who has spent around 40 years preparing traditional sesame sweets and nut confections. His stories remind us why preserving Lebanon’s food heritage matters.
🧀 TRIPOLI’S LEGENDARY HALLOUMI & DAIRY PRODUCTS
At a small traditional dairy shop near Shahine Hospital, we discover exceptional halloumi cheese, fresh sheep’s milk labneh, local olive oil, and homemade Lebanese desserts.
We taste Halawet El Riz and Halawet El Jebn, two of Tripoli’s most beloved sweets, prepared using traditional recipes.
🍽️ AUTHENTIC LEBANESE BREAKFAST
No morning in Tripoli is complete without a proper Lebanese breakfast!
We stop for freshly prepared foul, creamy hummus, and traditional breakfast specialties. Generations of experience, simple ingredients, and flavors that represent the best of Lebanese cuisine.
We also discover family businesses specializing in namoura, sfouf, traditional sweets, nuts, and other local delicacies.
🏛️ EXPLORING TRIPOLI’S HISTORIC OLD SOUKS
Our journey continues through Tripoli’s famous old souks, including Souk El Attarine, where traditional spice merchants, herbalists, craftsmen, and small family shops keep centuries-old traditions alive.
Khaled shares memories of his childhood, school days, and neighborhoods that have changed over the years.
From old bookstores and historic streets to freshly squeezed lemonade and traditional Halawet El Shmeisseh, every corner reveals another story.
❤️ TRIPOLI: A CITY OF PEOPLE, FOOD & MEMORIES
What makes this episode special isn’t only the delicious food. It’s the people.
After more than two decades abroad, Khaled reconnects with his hometown, revisiting the places that shaped his childhood.
For me, this is the Lebanon I love sharing with the world: authentic, generous, welcoming, and full of life.
Tripoli deserves to be discovered, appreciated, and celebrated!
