Tubby the Tuba | Star Classics (1988) | VHS archive

This digitized 1988 VHS tape from Star Classics features the classic musical story of Tubby the Tuba. Narrated with an orchestral score, the film uses "Puppetoon" style stop-motion animation to teach children about the different instruments of the orchestra through the eyes of a tuba who dreams of playing a melody. Tubby is a tuba who is tired of his repetitive "oom-pah" parts in the orchestra. He feels overlooked and saddened that the "pretty" melodies are always given to the violins, flutes, and trumpets. After a discouraging rehearsal, Tubby wanders to a pond where he meets a friendly bullfrog who teaches him that every voice is special. The story concludes with a triumphant performance that proves even the biggest, deepest instrument has a song to sing.
