v1 moving texture

This is a video of a FOV in the lateral part of mouse V1 as the animal watches a texture of 'dirt' moving in 4 major directions with short interstimulus intervals. Inspired by the lore of Hubel and Wiesel's groundbreaking crackling of neurons which almost sounded like experimental music    • Hubel & Wiesel - Cortical Neuron - V1   When looking at a FOV in calcium imaging, these cells look almost like pads on a digital controller one would use for ableton. So I extracted inferred spikes from a bunch of cells, looked for some that have some sort of a tempo signature, grouped some into melodic ensembles and exported their binned spikes as a MIDI track with different amplitudes based on the instant spike rate. Mixed back onto a slight moving mean treated timeseries this is what we get. SLAB @ UCSB 2026
