My Little Special Angel” was inspired by my youngest brother, Richard — the seventh of seven children and someone who has taught our family more about happiness, love, and perspective than he will probably ever know. When Mom brought Richard home, six brothers and sisters gathered around him. We knew he was different, but none of that mattered. He was simply our little brother. Growing up, we called him Bird and Dee. Mom had another name for him: her little special angel. Richard has always had a way of finding happiness in the simplest things — a cold soda, a comfortable chair, Christmas with the family, or just seeing someone he loves walk through the door. While the rest of us spend so much time worrying about tomorrow, Richard reminds us how much life there is in today. Today, Richard lives in a group home, but some things never change. When his big brother walks through that door, that same familiar smile is still waiting. This song is for Richard.
