An Ud on my Couch! Hicaz Rhythmical Taksim by Marko Melkon Alemsherian cover by Ilias Markantonis

Between the 20th century's ud players, Marko Melkon Alemsherian has been a very strong influence to me as i was studying and playing Rebetiko for several years. His recordings gave me a great motivation to build up the sense of percussive playing on the ud, whether I want to accompany sing or not. On a further technical aspect, i listened a very sharp metallic sound on his ud playing, based on the fact that he was using the mizrap in his right hand very close to the bridge and leading its edge to strike on the soundboard surface simultaneously... On this series of homemade videos I made on my couch, I expose a variety of Ud performing styles that inspired and motivated my personal aesthetic in composition and improvisation along the years of studying and performing. If you want to see more videos of different types of Ud you can check ‪@rapakodi‬ Ανάμεσα στους ουτίστες του 20ού αιώνα, ο Μάρκος Μελκόν Αλεμσεριάν υπήρξε μια πολύ σημαντική επιρροή για μένα, καθώς μελετούσα και έπαιζα ρεμπέτικ για αρκετά χρόνια. Οι ηχογραφήσεις του μου έδωσαν μεγάλο κίνητρο να αναπτύξω την αίσθηση του ρυθμικού, παιξίματος στο ούτι, έχοντας αίσθηση κρουστού, είτε ήθελα να συνοδεύσω τραγούδι είτε όχι. Με μια πιο προσεκτική ακρόαση ως προς την τεχνική, παρατήρησα στον ήχο του, σκληρό και μεταλλικό, να χτυπά τις χορδές πολύ κοντά στη γέφυρα (χορδοκράτη) αφήνοντας ταυτόχρονα την άκρη της να χτυπά στην επιφάνεια του καπακιού... Μέσα από αυτή τη σειρά βίντεο που έφτιαξα στο σπίτι, στον καναπέ μου, παρουσιάζω διαφορετικά στυλ παιξίματος στο ούτι, τα οποία με ενέπνευσαν και συνέβαλαν στη διαμόρφωση της προσωπικής μου αισθητικής στη σύνθεση και τον αυτοσχεδιασμό, μέσα από χρόνια μελέτης και καλλιτεχνικής δράσης.
