Is This McGee’s Last Season? NCIS Episode 2 Ending Explained.

Quick spoiler warning, because we’re talking about the end of NCIS season 24, episode 2. Remember where this started. In the premiere, Tony comes back to D.C. and ends up as director. The Secretary of the Navy even tells him she put the wrong person in that chair. And McGee? He’s been at NCIS for years. He wasn’t picked. So why? Let’s walk through it, because there’s more here than one line of dialogue. Here’s the first thing you need to notice. Tony doesn’t say McGee failed. He says the Secretary of the Navy has another post planned for him. Now, the recaps don’t agree on the details. One says the Secretary is looking to retire and wants McGee to take her job. Another says it’s simply a position in her office. But think about it. Either way, that job isn’t at NCIS. The Secretary sits above the agency. She isn’t part of the team.
