Why Canada Never Became the 51st State ?
Why did Canada never become part of the United States, even after two American invasions and today's "51st state" push? This is the full history of the US-Canada border, from 1759 to the 2026 trade war.
Same empire. Same language. More land. Yet the United States became a $32.6 trillion superpower while Canada, at $2.5 trillion, became its quieter neighbor. In 55 minutes of animated maps, we follow the 49th parallel through the fall of Quebec, the American Revolution, the War of 1812 and the burning of the White House, Manifest Destiny, the Civil War that pushed Canada into Confederation in 1867, Vimy Ridge, the American Century, and the tariffs, "elbows up" and 51st-state fight of 2025 and 2026.
Which side of the line would you rather live on? Tell me in the comments.
