Mahindra Thar Roxx Long Term Ownership Review After 13,000 km | AX7L Diesel Automatic | Honest Pros, Cons and Service Cost
Is the Mahindra Thar Roxx worth buying in 2026? After driving my Thar Roxx AX7L Diesel Automatic for over 13,000 kilometres across highways, mountain roads, Ladakh and rough off road trails, here is my completely honest long term ownership review. No sponsorship, no sugarcoating, just real experience from a real owner.
In this video, I cover everything you need to know before buying the Thar Roxx: the premium exterior and feature list, how the diesel engine and torque converter automatic perform in daily driving and in the mountains, how ADAS Level 2 behaves on Indian roads, real service costs, whether the 4x2 is enough or you need the 4x4, and every problem I have faced so far.
🚙 WHAT’S COVERED IN THIS REVIEW
✅ Exterior and Features
The Thar Roxx AX7L looks premium from every angle with diamond cut alloy wheels, ADAS Level 2 safety features, a 360 degree camera and a huge panoramic sunroof. It feels like a proper family SUV while keeping the iconic Thar character.
✅ Driving Experience
The diesel engine paired with the 6 speed torque converter automatic is smooth and relaxed on highways and confident on steep mountain climbs. One thing to know: ADAS can brake quite aggressively at times, and in my experience this led to faster wear on the brake pads.
✅ Service and Maintenance Cost
My second service at around 10,000 km cost approximately ₹16,000, mainly because the rear brake pads had to be replaced. A regular service without any extra repairs should cost roughly ₹8,000 to ₹9,000.
✅ Off Roading: 4x2 vs 4x4
I drove all the way through Ladakh and other mountain regions in a 4x2 without any major trouble. However, the 4x2 is not a replacement for a true 4x4 in extreme off road situations. If you are a serious off roading enthusiast, go for the 4x4.
✅ Problems and Issues
Small infotainment glitches (fixed by resetting the battery), squeaky rear door latches (fixed with lubrication) and bottle holders that are not really usable. Nothing major, but you should know about them before buying.
