The Kisii Governor's Park: From Garbage To Chill Spot

From a mountain of garbage to a green public space — this is the transformation of Nyambera into Kisii Governor’s Park. For years, Nyambera in Kisii Town was known as a major dumpsite, associated with accumulated waste, unpleasant smells and environmental concerns. Today, the site has been transformed into a recreational green space with lawns, walking paths, landscaped areas and facilities designed for people to relax and enjoy the outdoors. The Kisii County Government identifies Governor’s Park as one of its flagship projects, with the park intended to provide a public space particularly for recreation and youth engagement. County planning documents also show that the transformation involved decommissioning the Nyambera dumpsite and establishing a nature/recreational park. A county development plan allocated funding toward the project, while a recent Citizen TV report described the transformation as involving a KSh 35 million investment.
