🎬 Ramblin' Boys – The Martin Stephenson / Charlie Poole Connection (A Documentary) 🎶 Produced by Gettin' The Blues / Echo Productions – 2005 This captivating independent documentary chronicles acclaimed North East musician Martin Stephenson (of The Daintees) on a soulful and musical journey from Newcastle, UK to the heart of North Carolina, USA. In search of traditional American roots music, Martin set out to record a field recordings album with forgotten Appalachian and Piedmont musicians. During his stay, Martin discovered the rich musical legacy of Charlie Poole and the North Carolina Ramblers, legendary pioneers of old-time string band music from the 1930s. Deeply inspired, Martin returned to the UK with a mission: to tell Charlie’s story through theatre and music. 🎭 The resulting stage production – a heartfelt musical play about Poole's life – was performed to critical acclaim at The Live Theatre, Quayside Newcastle, bringing together amateur actors and some of the North East’s finest musicians.
