Operation Gato Clavo: Face to Face With the World's Rarest Cat

After Operation Kittens in the Wind's less-than-great outcome, I wasn't done with the Iberian lynx yet. I was fortunate enough to be invited, through a collaboration, to Gato Clavo by its director, Antonio Rodríguez, a veterinarian who's worked with these felines for years. At the heart of Sierra de Andújar, Gato Clavo does conservation differently: hides with no glass windows, continous light at night, so you experience these lynxes as they are, and 10% of every session booked goes straight back into their conservation. Three days, two lynxes - Tanzanita and Viento - and one of the closest, most immersive encounters I've had with this species. Just the wild, and a project that's proof conservation doesn't have to mean keeping people out.
