Colchester East Hill works 6/10/26

In Colchester, we are working to create new walking and cycling infrastructure along East Hill. A key gateway into the city centre, these works form part of a wider route connecting the city centre with the University, Greenstead and future developments planned to the east of the city. Having started works earlier in the summer, the contractor, Octavius, is currently working in sections on the south side of the street before crossing to the north side. Within the video, you can see the new kerb line showing the widened footway and cycleway infrastructure. Over the coming weeks, the team will be installing new paving. During the works, it is very important that we make it as easy as possible for pedestrians to continue using East Hill. As such, the team is working on one side of the road at a time, keeping the northern side clear. To ensure safe access for residents, a temporary crossing point is in operation. This is being moved in line with the progression of the works and is equipped with both audible and tactile crossing indicators to support people with visual impairments. The team on site is undertaking regular audits of the traffic management arrangements and signage to ensure they are working as effectively as possible.
