We hit Shark River in Belmar, New Jersey, last night, right at sunrise with one question: What can we catch today? These waters can hold just about anything this time of year—triggerfish, Spanish mackerel, bonito, fluke, blackfish, and more—so we came prepared to see what was swimming through. Fishing with Anthony from @droppedbrothersinbait and Whitebeard Chris. We used sand fleas and clams, hoping to connect with triggerfish or blackfish. Something kept hammering the bait with small nibbles, but we just couldn’t get a solid hookup. Then the fluke started biting. Despite a ripping current, we managed to put two keeper fluke on deck. We kept one for bait—nothing beats fresh fluke belly—and released the second one to fight another day. Ran into a few people I know: Pompi from #Pompiswildadventures on Instagram and Brian who used to live in my area and chatted with me often on FB about local fishing, that was so cool to see those guys so far from home. One of the coolest parts of the morning was watching schools of bait getting chased by bigger fish. There was definitely something feeding hard around us—we just couldn’t get those fish to commit. And I got to put some time in with my Visser reel paired with a lightweight custom rod built in honor of the New York Knicks’ 2026 championship season. 🏆🗽🎣 Not every fishing trip is about filling the cooler. Sometimes it’s about watching the water, figuring out what’s moving through and trying to crack the code. What do YOU think was chasing all that bait in Shark River—Spanish mackerel, bonito, blues or something else? Drop your guess in the comments! 🎣 Reel TipSea Bay Fishing #SharkRiver #BelmarNJ #NJFishing #FlukeFishing #JerseyShoreFishing #SaltwaterFishing #Triggerfish #Bonito #SpanishMackerel #Blackfish #ReelTipSeaBayFishing #brothersinbait #bayonnebaitandtackle #jettyfishing
