Quetico River, Drifting

All proceeds from sales of the album will be donated to the Quetico Foundation, a charity organization that funds habitat preservation, scientific research programs, and artist residencies at Quetico Provincial Park. Every song on this album is built up around recordings I took during a week-long canoe trip with my partner, Julia, in Quetico Provincial Park, September 8 to 14, 2024. Special thanks to Nanny Martha, who spent the week with her grandkids and enabled us to take the time away together! The field recording ambiances are not an after-thought. They are the core of the songs. I composed around the recording, treating the sounds as collaborators, as players, trying to weave the music into what was happening in that place and time. Each song is the length of the original field recording. These songs are meant to be a memento of the experiences I had in those times and places – something that holds a memory, to enliven that memory, to embody a place and time.
