HOA Fined Me for Cutting My Own Tree, Then Filed a Lien — Biggest Mistake They Ever Made
I checked the deed. I checked the plat. The dead oak was eleven feet inside my own property line, and a certified arborist told me in writing it was a hazard waiting to fall. So I had it removed. Four days later, a certified letter showed up citing a "tree preservation" clause, and what followed was a fine, a lien on my house, and a trip to civil court.
This video walks through the whole fight: the hazard report that started it, the HOA board meeting where I laid out my deed and got nowhere, the lien that landed on my title during the exact years we'd started talking about someday selling, and the old newsletters I dug up that told a very different story about how this rule had actually been enforced before. It ends in front of a judge, with a ruling that changed how the board does business going forward.
Have you ever had an HOA fine you for something that was completely within your rights? Tell me in the comments. I read every one.
