From a small village in Patalkot to the summit of Mount Everest, mountaineer Bhawna Dehariya takes us through the raw, unfiltered reality of climbing the world's highest peak. In this episode, we break down everything from mindset training to funding an expedition, choosing the right climbing company, and the challenges female climbers face at extreme altitudes that nobody talks about.
Bhawna decided to climb Everest in the 7th grade and turned that childhood dream into reality becoming one of India's few climbers working toward completing the Seven Summits Challenge (5 out of 7 already conquered, including Kilimanjaro, Elbrus East & West, Kosciuszko, and Aconcagua).
In this conversation, we cover:
The real North vs South route journey Kathmandu to Lukla to Everest Base Camp.
How to build the mental toughness required before physical training even begins.
A step-by-step physical training roadmap for beginners (breathing exercises, running, weight-carrying).
The Everest Journey: The real Kathamndu–Lukla–EBC route, choosing reliable expedition teams, oxygen logistics, gear and costs.
The Truth About Sherpas & Summits: Why you meet your Sherpa late, high-altitude dangers, post-summit reality, and the scam of fake certificates.
Training & Mindset: Building mental toughness, a beginner physical training roadmap (breathing, running, weight-carrying), and top Indian mountaineering institutes.
Funding & Realities: Securing sponsorships, grants, and CSR funds; high-altitude menstruation for women; and balancing family with climbing.
