He sold 177 apartment units. Now, he's building two Assisted Living Mansions—and his reason for making the switch goes beyond real estate.
After more than 22 years as a registered nurse, Edwin moved into real estate investing, acquired 177 multifamily units across two deals, and eventually sold those properties. But when his mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, his search for quality senior care introduced him to a different investment opportunity: Residential Assisted Living.
In this episode of the Assisted Living Investing Podcast, I sit down with Edwin, a fellow Mansion Builder, to discuss why he is shifting from traditional multifamily real estate to ground-up Assisted Living development—and what it takes to turn that vision into reality.
Edwin is now working toward building two Assisted Living Mansions in the Houston area. We discuss the challenges of finding the right land, evaluating the numbers, raising capital, navigating entitlements, and planning for operations. He also shares how his experience as a nurse and multifamily investor shaped his decision to enter senior housing.
If you're exploring Real Estate Assisted Living (RAL), looking for your next real estate investment, or considering building an Assisted Living business, this conversation offers an inside look at the opportunity, the challenges, and the long-term vision.
