Interview with Alan Branhagen, author of The Midwest Native Plant Primer

Alan Branhagen, Director of Operations at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, is the author of the new book, The Midwest Native Plant Primer. Featuring 225 native plants, Branhagen's new book draws from his 2016 book, Native Plants of the Midwest, which features 500 plants. Join Missouri Prairie Foundation Executive Director Carol Davit in this interview with Branhagen to discuss his new book, and how gardeners, from beginning to advanced, can create Earth-friendly native gardens. Known to many in the lower Midwest, Branhagen served as director of horticulture for Powell Gardens, Kansas City's botanical garden, for 20 years. He is an all-around plantsman and naturalist (specializing in botany, birds, and butterflies) and travels throughout the Midwest and the country visiting gardens and natural areas. Branhagen grew more than 1,500 taxa of plants at his Missouri garden ("Luna Ridge") and is in process of creating a new natural garden on 2.5 acres at his home overlooking the Minnesota River Valley in Chaska, Minnesota.
