June on Gordon's Farm, and the much-anticipated barley harvest turns out to be a month early. The excitement was real — the barley was meant to be ready. But a quick check of the planting calendar reveals the truth: it went in during October, not September. That one-month shift means the barley won't be ready until July, and the wheat won't follow until August. No harvest this month. Time to adapt. So the farm pivots. The sawmill gets loaded to near capacity — enough timber to keep it busy for three months. One stubborn tree puts up a real fight, but it eventually submits. Contract work fills the gaps, and the bulk storage gets sold off. With the grain mill now placed on the property, the old storage setup simply isn't needed anymore. And then there's field 35. Currently grass, but it's only producing around £11,000 of silage per harvest — not enough to justify keeping it as grass. The plan is set: turn it into a dedicated sheep and goat field. Elsewhere, fields 20 and 50 will eventually be ploughed together for cows, field 36 becomes the new grass field, and 21 is earmarked as the future home of the cattle operation.
