USA Road Trip 2024 Arizona New Mexico Texas Colorado Utah Week 3

This video shows the third week of our 2024 USA road trip. We started the week by exploring Denver, commencing the day with an early pint of beer at the Wynkoop Brewery. I was so excited, I forgot to film it! We particularly enjoyed the Colorado State Capitol - a fine, ornate building with its golden cupola. The following day we left Denver, headed for Estes Park. On the way, we called in to the Red Rock Amphitheatre, visited Buffalo Bill's grave at Lookout Mountain and wandered around Golden. We then took the scenic route to Estes Park and had a hike around Lily Lake on the way. We stayed in Estes Park for three nights, taking the opportunity to explore Rocky Mountain National Park. RMNP is a beautiful park - my video images really don't do it full justice. A highlight of RMNP was the Trail Ridge Road - a truly spectacular drive on our way to Idaho Springs. The following day we visited Georgetown and Breckenridge, former gold mining towns, before arriving at Gunnison for an overnight stay. Our destination on day 22 was the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. This proved difficult to get to as a bridge on our route had developed structural cracks and was closed to through traffic. We had two options; endure a five hour detour or take County Road 26 - basically a flattened dirt track. This was controlled by a single file convoy. This gave spectacular views - but an incredibly bumpy ride! The Black Canyon of the Gunnison was well worth a visit giving far-reaching views of the canyon via a scenic drive and easy, short hikes. We travelled on to Grand Junction where we spent two nights, before commencing our final week heading back to Phoenix.
