Meet Bombette Martin And The Coach That Got Her To The 2020 Olympics | Golden Rings #1

At 15, Bombette Martin was representing Great Britain in skateboarding’s first-ever Olympic competition. Getting to Tokyo took years of skating, an unexpected extra year to prepare, and a coach who figured out that asking nicely got him absolutely nowhere. Welcome to the Golden Rings podcast. For our debut episode, Bombette brings on her longtime coach Juan Pinero — the person who helped her become an Olympian and would like a little credit for surviving the process. Their story starts at Pier 62, where Bombette’s dad approached Juan about coaching his kids while Juan was… let’s say, in an altered state. They’ve been keeping each other humble ever since. From the tricks that got her to Tokyo to whether she “peaked at 15,” almost every memory comes with some trash talk from the other side. This is your introduction to Bombette, courtesy of someone who knows her well enough to call her out — and knows she’ll dish it right back.
