Narration - All the daughters-in-law of the village were talking in the same way while holding pots at the pond… This is the story of Ujala village where there was no electricity for a year due to bad weather… Ujala village which was once known for light, was now engulfed in darkness… No one had electricity in their house… It was as if everyone was living in an era without electricity… Women used to fulfil their needs by filling water from the pond and in the summer season, it was even more difficult… Scene - 2 Diya, age 24 - (washing clothes by hand) Ahh… Oh God, in this heat, all the water is used up in washing clothes… clothes get cleaned and the strength of the body goes away… (looking at the washing machine) What is the use of this washing machine received in dowry? When it just stands there and teases? I will sell it… Hema age 50 - (refusing) No, daughter in law…this does not happen…don’t even think of selling it… Diya age 24 - (getting angry) Why mother?..do I have to perform aarti for it?. Hema age 50 - (explaining) Hey son, this is something given to me by your parents... Diya age 24 - (getting upset) Yes, mom, mom and dad gave it to me to use...but when it is not being used at all, it is better that I sell it because I don't think electricity will come to our village now... Narration - After hearing what Diya said, Hema could not say anything...in the same way, the things needed for electricity were rotting in the houses of all the villagers...some had coolers, some had AC... Disha age 24 - (fanning herself with a hand fan) Ahhhh...heat...(getting angry looking at the AC) what is the use of this?...it is always switched off... Kamla age 50 - (getting angry) Take it down and sell it, daughter-in-law, this AC has no value in this village without electricity... Narration - Items from everyone's houses It was lying idle like this…the whole village had gone very far behind due to lack of electricity…as soon as evening fell, darkness would start to engulf the whole village…all the people would finish their work and come home before sunset because night would bring extreme darkness… Man 3 Age 28 - (speaking to Rakhi) Rakhi, lock the door…anyway it is quite late now, so now neither will I go out nor will anyone from the village come to our house…till then I will spread the bed on the roof… Rakhi Age 24 - (listening to the conversation) Yes… Narration - Everyone in the village used to lock the door like this…Rakhi also locked her house in the light of the lamp and after that she went with her husband to spread the bed on the roof…everyone was on the nearby roofs too and everyone was setting up their beds on the roof…that is when Rakhi heard the sound of the door bell ringing from below… Rakhi Age 24 - (speaking to her husband) Who could it be at this time? Man 3 Age 28 - (going down) I don't know, I will go and see... Man 2 Age 29 - (speaking from the adjacent terrace) Hey hey brother what are you doing?.. Is everyone in your house at home or not?.. Jaya Age 50 - (speaking) Yes everyone is at home... Man 1 Age 29 - (speaking from the opposite terrace) If everyone is at home then don't open the door... I have heard that due to excessive darkness dacoits and robbers roam around in the village at night...
