The $587M AI Secret That Could End Hollywood | Episode 11

What's in your algorithm? Our algorithms determine the news we receive. Literally ALL NEWS. Couples no longer know what is most important to the other in a given week...unless they watch Switching Positions Podcast! Matt and Lizzie each bring a new story at the top of their respective algorithms that the other hasn't heard - then argue for which story matters most. But FIRST, together they switch YOUR position on a news item. In this 11th episode of the Switching Positions Podcast, hosts Matt and Lizzie break down current events from their respective algorithms to bridge the gap between their different media perspectives. The episode explores three primary topics: 1. Cornell 7 News (2:30 - 8:05): The hosts open with a serious discussion regarding the recent news surrounding the 'Cornell 7' incident. They address the importance of supporting survivors, the systemic nature of such issues, and why it is crucial for individuals, particularly men, to take a stand against misogyny and assault rather than remaining silent. 2. AI in the Movie Industry (8:05 - 22:06): Matt discusses Ben Affleck's controversial use of AI in his new Netflix film, Animals. They debate the implications of an A-list actor using proprietary AI tools while simultaneously selling an AI company for millions, noting the lack of transparency about how the technology is being applied and whether it threatens industry jobs. 3. Hollywood and Influencer Culture (23:02 - 34:00): Lizzie brings up recent comments made by Pete Davidson regarding the influencer industry. The hosts analyze the tension between traditional comedy and the multi-billion dollar creator economy, critiquing Davidson's remarks as tone-deaf and suggesting that he is missing the reality of how modern entertainment is evolving. The episode concludes with their recurring "Koozie of the Week" segment (22:06) and the "Cowi" segment, where they share personal updates before their trip to Singapore (34:00). 0:00 Intro 2:30 News: Cornell 7 discussion 8:05 AI in the movie industry: Ben Affleck 22:06 Koozie of the week 23:02 Hollywood heartthrob: Pete Davidson and influencers 34:00 Cowi segment and closing
