Somewhere in Appalachia, you can still buy an entire house for $12,000 — and in some towns, even less.
But these prices are not some hidden real estate miracle. They are the remains of places that once depended on coal mines, railroads, iron furnaces, pottery factories, and thousands of jobs that simply disappeared.
In this video, we travel through 10 forgotten Appalachian towns across Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Virginia to see how they boomed, why people left, what houses are selling for today, and what those incredibly low prices are really hiding.
From Wellston and East Liverpool to Mullens, Wheelwright, Evarts, Davy, Welch, Pocahontas, and Appalachia, these are real American towns where homes have sold or listed for under $20,000.
But cheap houses come with a catch: aging properties, expensive repairs, isolation, disappearing jobs, flood risk, shrinking populations, and sometimes almost no resale market at all.
Would you actually live in one of these towns if the house cost less than $20,000?
Tell me which one — and let me know what city or country you're watching from.
