From Munich to Eibsee and Königssee, I’ve listed everything from the places I visited and how I got there to the routes and travel tips that helped me along the way🏔️🥾 Hopefully this makes planning your own German Alps adventure a little easier 💗 MUNICH • EIBSEE • KÖNIGSSEE DAY 1 • EIBSEE HIKE 🏔️💚 📍 Lake Eibsee 🎟️ TRAIN TICKETS You have two main options for travelling around Bavaria: 🇩🇪 Deutschland-Ticket 💶 €63 per month The Deutschland-Ticket covers regional public transport and trains, so if you’re planning to travel around Germany for several days, it can be a good option. I couldn’t get it because I travelled on the 29th, and they didn’t let me purchase it because it was already the end of the month. 🇩🇪 Bayern-Ticket 💶 €30.50 for one day I used the Bayern-Ticket, which covers regional trains throughout Bavaria for the day. 🚆 MUNICH → GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN From Munich Central Station, take a regional train to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. 🚆 Train: RB / RB60 / RE62 ⏱️ Travel time: approximately 1.5 hours From Garmisch-Partenkirchen, you can take either the bus or the cogwheel train towards Eibsee. 🎟️ Train: €17 round trip 🚌 Bus: €2 one way Since I had the Bayern-Ticket, I got the discounted fare for around €14. 😂 I actually missed my train when coming back, so I ended up taking the bus instead, which cost me €6. Once I arrived at Eibsee, I did the Eibsee hike and spent the day exploring the beautiful lake and surrounding views. 🥹🏔️ ⸻ DAY 2 • KÖNIGSSEE HIKE 🏔️💚 📍 Königssee → Salet → Obersee 🎟️ TRAIN TICKET I didn’t use the Bayern-Ticket this day because the Bayern-Ticket is valid from 9:00 AM until 3:00 AM the following day, and I wanted to leave much earlier. So instead, I bought a one-way ticket for €49.50. 🚆 MUNICH → FREILASSING → BERCHTESGADEN I started from München-Laim and travelled to Munich Central Station, then continued towards Freilassing Station. 🚆 From Munich Central Station, take the RE5 heading towards Salzburg. ⏰ If you want to leave early, there is a train at 5:57 AM from Munich Central Station. And because apparently I enjoy making public transport unnecessarily stressful… 😂 I somehow managed to miss my train by ONE MINUTE. 😭 Once you arrive at Freilassing, take the mountain train: 🚆 BRB S4 → Berchtesgaden From Berchtesgaden, take: 🚌 Bus 841 → Königssee 🎟️ Bus ticket: €2 ⸻ 🚤 KÖNIGSSEE BOAT Once you arrive at Königssee, buy a round-trip boat ticket to Salet, which is the last stop. 🎟️ Round trip to Salet: €28.50 Once you arrive at Salet, you can start your hike towards Lake Obersee. 🥾 THE HIKE The route includes: • Lake Obersee • Cliffside trail • Alpine hut • Germany’s tallest waterfall I didn’t continue all the way to the waterfall because it was dry when I visited. ⚠️ IMPORTANT TIMING The last boat from Salet is at 5:10 PM, so make sure you get back on time! If you miss the last boat, you may need to contact the water rescue service, which can be very expensive. So definitely keep an eye on the time! ⏰ 🚤 ST. BARTHOLOMÄ On the way back, I also stopped at St. Bartholomä. 🚤 Last boat from St. Bartholomä: 5:30 PM Once you’re done exploring, make your way back to Königssee → Berchtesgaden → Freilassing → Munich, using the same route you came. ⚠️ There’s no signal throughout the entire Königssee hike and around the lake. So make sure to download the offline Google Maps, save the languages you need on Google Translate, and screenshot or save all the places you want to visit, directions, and even any photos for inspiration. Download and save everything you might need beforehand because there’s absolutely no signal there 🎟️ RETURN JOURNEY TO MUNICH For the return journey from Königssee to Munich, I bought a Bayern-Ticket because it worked out cheaper than buying another one-way ticket.
