Eastchurch On The Isle Of Sheppey. Eastchurch is a historic village and civil parish on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent, England, renowned as an early cradle of British aviation and famed for its dramatic coastal geography.
Birthplace of British Flight: Eastchurch is celebrated as the "home of British aviation". In 1909, the Royal Aero Club established a flying ground here, hosting the first controlled flight by a British pilot in Britain (by Frank McClean / initial pioneers), alongside early work by the Short Brothers, John Moore-Brabazon, and Charles Rolls.
Located directly opposite the village church, the #eastchurch Aviation Memorial honours these pioneering aviators and the military personnel trained at the former RNAS/RAF Eastchurch station.
The local Eastchurch #aviation Museum preserves the area’s rich aeronautical archives and exhibits through a dedicated volunteer-run collection.
