Footage from ITV Schools junctions, recorded in the Tyne Tees region, on Monday 29 April and Tuesday 30 April 1985. Monday 29 April was quite an unusual morning, presentation-wise. Three different interval slides were networked that morning! The standby junction and the 09.45 junction used the first slide here, 'The Great Central and The Great War'. This slide was also used two weeks later for the entire week. The next three junctions, at 09.57, 10.09 and 10.27 used the second slide here, 'Daniel Gooch and the Great Western' (it's only appearances that term). Tyne Tees opted out of the 10.57 interval (as they normally did on Mondays that year - as well as at 10.55 and 11.10 on Tuesdays) showing their copy of the 'Daniel Gooch' slide (I'm not sure which slide was networked), and the final two intervals at 11.17 and 11.35 used the third slide here, 'Patrick Stirling and the Great Northern Railway', and this went on to be used the remainder of the week (the footage of the slide in this clip is actually the standby interval from the following morning). Furthermore, the interval tracks during the 11.17 junction were played in a different order! At the start of the clip is an unusual news caption that Tyne Tees announcer Judi Lines read the headlines over on the Monday (normally the announcer would appear in vision) - I suspect this dates from several years earlier as it doesn't match their news graphics of the time. The late Annie St John appears before the final junction here, closing the Tuesday morning's news headlines and making a reference to the fact the following day would be May! All the slides used that term were originally used in Autumn 1981 and come from David Weston's 'History of the Great British Steam Locomotive'. There were 24 paintings in this collection, 11 of which were adapted for interval slides.
