We each want, in other words, to live in ways that are functional, effective, relationally rich, and spiritually deep. Living wise lives often depends on the words by which we live. The genre of Scripture known as the wisdom literature is focused on helping us with precisely such endeavors. Saying by saying, thought by thought, proverb by proverb, wisdom is outlined about many of the everyday realities that we face. A Word to the Wise. That word—in this series comes from ancient writers to modern-day people.
