Looking for screen-free toddler activities that encourage independent learning? A DIY toddler busy book might become one of your favorite early learning resources!
In this video, I'm sharing our family's well-loved toddler busy book—a reusable collection of printable activities, Velcro matching games, tracing pages, early literacy lessons, math activities, and science explorations that we used for years.
I'll show you what's inside our busy book, how we organized it, what materials you'll need to create your own, and why so many of its pages eventually became part of our regular homeschool curriculum.
Our busy book includes:
Alphabet recognition, letter tracing, and early literacy
Nursery rhyme sequencing and reading comprehension
Counting, number matching, shapes, and opposites
Weather, seasons, and days of the week
Animal habitats, continents, and the solar system
Reusable Velcro matching and dry-erase activities
You can purchase a ready-made printable busy book or build your own using free resources. You don't need a giant binder like ours! Start with a few activities your child enjoys, then add new pages as their interests and abilities develop.
One of my favorite things about busy books is how they encourage self-directed learning. Children can choose what interests them, practice skills at their own pace, and explore without needing a screen.
