Egypt – Abu Simbel: A Journey to Ramses II's Temple, filmed on location. About this place: Abu Simbel has two rock temples of Ramesses II, with four colossal statues at the entrance. The official view: they were carved around 1260 BC and moved higher in the 1960s to escape Lake Nasser. Twice a year, the sun reaches the inner sanctuary. But the move shifted that solar date slightly, and how the original builders planned it is still discussed. The salvage was led by UNESCO, and the temples were cut into more than 1,000 blocks before being rebuilt on the new site. Would you go to see the solar alignment?
