The Merrick Trail - A Day Walk on the Trail

The Merrick is the highest summit in Southern Scotland and lies in Dumfries & Galloway. The trail itself is around 8.25 miles and takes in some fantastic scenery as well as the flora and fauna of these border hills. Wikipedia describes the Merrick thus: 'The Merrick (from Gaelic meurag, "fingered, knucked") is a mountain in the Range of the Awful Hand, a sub-range of the Galloway Hills range, part of the Southern Uplands of Scotland. The summit elevation is 843 metres (2,766 feet), making it the highest mountain in the Southern Uplands and southern Scotland'. 'awful hand' or not it provides a good days walking amongst gentle rolling hills and lochs.
