Beaver Valley '37 Suite - Mancini/Newton

Mancini's Beaver Valley ' 37 Suite was written for Orchestra and never published for Wind Ensemble. He composed Beaver Valley ‘37 as a deeply personal, autobiographical tribute to his childhood and early teen years growing up in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. The piece was written for his 1969 classical crossover album titled “Debut!”. Mancini used the suite to musically depict the environmental and cultural landscapes that shaped his life during the Great Depression. Mancini’s love of music came directly from his parents. He grew up playing flute and piccolo in the Sons of Italy band, based in Aliquippa, which he often credited for sparking his lifelong career in music.
