How are you’ll doing today? If you’re looking to study abroad, there’s a high chance that many of you are considering Edinburgh – the breath-taking capital of Scotland. And you should; it’s such a gorgeous city with a fine education system. But of course, the first question that comes to mind is how many monthly expenses in Edinburgh you’d need to spend to survive as an international student. Don’t stress, we’re here to help with that! I’m Sunidhi, and in this video, I’ll take you through all the kinds of expenses (cost of college life In Edinburgh and monthly expenses in Edinburgh) you’ll have if you’re an international student in Edinburgh. Firstly, let’s talk about your tuition. The bachelor’s and master’s programs range from £20,000 - £30,000 per year depending on the course you are pursuing. If you have a full or part scholarship, this amount will be less. The next major expense is your accommodation. Depending on where you are in the city, you will be paying anywhere between £450-£550 per month on rent and utilities. Once your rent is taken care of, the next obvious expense is groceries. Yes, you will be cooking if you’re living the student life! Fortunately, groceries and essentials are not very expensive in Edinburgh. You can round it off to £100-£150 per month. Coming to getting around in the city, transportation is not bad either. You can even avoid any expenses here if you walk or cycle. Bus passes are around £60 per month. There are also special discounts for students and seasonal travel passes. There's Ubers and cabs too, that start at around £3 and go up £1.5 with every km. Finally, coming to the fun part – leisure! On weekends, if you want to chill at cafes, bars and restaurants, you can hope to spend around £15-£30 on a meal depending on where you go. And other leisurely activities like bowling, movies, gym memberships, sports events, music events, etc range from £10 to £30 per person. As a student, you can take advantage of the many student discounts offered by the state. There’s something called a TOTUM card that is just £12 a year, and will give you discounts on books, dine-out, and entertainment. Then there’s the ISIC (International student identity card) card that allows you to enjoy discounts on travel within the UK and Europe, gym memberships, home essentials and insurance, among other things. All in all, anywhere between £850-£1000 per month is what you would need to get by in Edinburgh as an international student, depending on your lifestyle.
