In 1921, the Newton brothers entered Hondo, Texas planning to rob a single bank. But when Willis Newton discovered that the first bank's vault had apparently been left unlocked, the job was finished far sooner than expected.
Instead of leaving town, the brothers made an extraordinary decision: there was another bank nearby, and there was still plenty of night left.
This is the story of the night the Newton Boys robbed both banks in
Hondo, Texas, and disappeared before the town realized what had happened. The episode shows the Newton Gang before their most famous robberies, when they specialized in carefully planned nighttime bank burglaries rather than the daylight hold-ups that would become notorious during the Depression era.
