“Ubaba Womunye” is a deeply emotional Amapiano story about growing up watching another girl receive the kind of fatherly love you always wished was yours.
Every Saturday, she watched through the window as the man next door ran beside his daughter’s bicycle, held her hand, tied her shoelaces, lifted her onto his shoulders, and turned around every time she called, “Baba.”
She was never angry at the girl.
She only wondered why someone else’s father stayed while hers never came.
Years later, she returns to the same house and sees that little girl grown, placing her own baby into her father’s arms. Three generations stand together in one doorway, and the old wound becomes impossible to ignore.
“Ubaba Womunye” is a soulful Amapiano song about father absence, childhood longing, comparison, resilience, and the painful realization that sometimes you never wanted a perfect father—you only wanted someone to turn around when you called his name.
Somebody’s father.
Just never mine.
