In this video, I show you how I help French learners turn passive French into active, usable French through my 20/80 speaking method — moving from understanding a structure to actually retrieving and using it in a real conversation. Many French learners know plenty of vocabulary and grammar but still struggle to speak French spontaneously. The problem isn’t always that you need to learn more French. Sometimes, the real challenge is being able to retrieve the French you already know quickly enough when you speak. In this video, I take you inside a real A1/A2 speaking session and show you how we work step by step: → choosing a small number of highly reusable French structures → practising them in different situations → building faster retrieval through speaking “GYMS” → gradually removing the support → moving from guided practice to real interaction → choosing the right structure independently in conversation This is the core of my 20/80 approach to learning French: Learn fewer high-value structures, practise them more deeply, and use them in many different situations. Because understanding a French expression and being able to use it spontaneously are two very different skills.
