WHITESNAKE BEFORE MTV: The Story of the Blues Rock Years 1977–1984

Before the big hair, the MTV videos and the massive success of 1987, Whitesnake were a very different band. In this ROCK-O-RAMA episode, we go back to the beginning and follow David Coverdale from the aftermath of Deep Purple through the birth of Whitesnake and the band's transformation from gritty British blues rock into arena-ready hard rock. We take a closer look at every key album from this era: Trouble Lovehunter Ready an’ Willing Come an’ Get It Saints & Sinners Slide It In Along the way, we explore the musicians who shaped the early Whitesnake sound, including Micky Moody, Bernie Marsden, Neil Murray, Jon Lord and Ian Paice, before the arrival of musicians such as Cozy Powell and John Sykes helped push the band toward a heavier sound. We also look at the stories behind songs including Fool for Your Loving, Here I Go Again, Crying in the Rain, Love Ain’t No Stranger and Slow an’ Easy, plus the lineup changes, tours and changing musical direction that eventually led toward the Whitesnake most fans know from the MTV era. And of course, we dive into one of the most fascinating chapters of their career: the different versions of Slide It In and the transition from British blues rock to the harder, more international Whitesnake sound.
