A robot arrives in a box with no sender. Every fight it wins, it gets exactly ten times bigger. And it never shrinks back. 22 centimetres. 2.2 metres. 22 metres. 220 metres. This part is real: The square-cube law: make something 10× taller and it gets 100× stronger but 1,000× heavier. Galileo worked it out in "Two New Sciences" (1638), and it's why giants built like us would collapse under their own weight) could kneel and pose, but never walked on its own: an armature on its back held it up.
