If you somehow haven't heard of GaMetal, Jonny has been at the forefront of high quality and high shred video game covers on YouTube since 2012. He'd amassed over 700 videos so if there's any video game songs you've wished I did, I'm sure he's got a cover of it over there so make sure to subscribe and check out his video catalog! For the entire time I've been doing video game covers, I've relied heavily on learning the songs by ear, sometimes supplemented with MIDI or Sheet Music that others have made, but this time when arranging I tried something different. I actually loaded up the Star Fox 64 ROM and extracted the note data from that. It was something I thought would be interesting to do now that I've been dipping my toes into programming. The data was kind of a mess to work with, but combining it with my ear, I was able to get the exact lines that played on hardware to make sure I had complete accuracy which has always been something I've strived for. I'm hoping to develop a more streamlined system to do so in the future and hopefully make it available to others for clean ROM - MIDI capabilites that don't just output a lot of the noise, assuming that's not already made and I just missed it. As an aside, since my Patreon remains under the threshold of Tab creation at the time of this video going out, tabs will not be made of this cover.
